Those small yellow and blue boxes in your attic hold more than just film; they hold the "silent era" of your family history. Unlike video tape, 8mm and Super 8 film are physical strips of celluloid that are highly susceptible to becoming brittle, shrinking, or suffering from "vinegar syndrome" (chemical breakdown).

We specialize in frame-by-frame scanning to turn your flickering projector memories into vibrant, high-definition digital stories.

The Difference Between Formats

Not all small film reels are the same. We handle both major consumer formats:

  • Standard 8mm: Developed in the 1930s; features larger sprocket holes and a smaller image area.

  • Super 8: Launched in the 1960s; features smaller sprocket holes, allowing for a 50% larger and sharper image on the same width of film.

Our Precision Transfer Process

  • Frame-by-Frame Scanning: We don’t just record a projection on a wall. We use specialized scanners that capture every single frame individually. This results in a flicker-free, rock-steady image.

  • LED Cold-Light Source: Older projectors used hot bulbs that could melt film if it jammed. Our modern scanners use cool LED light, ensuring your original reels are never at risk during the transfer.

  • Color & Speed Correction: Most 8mm film was shot at 16 or 18 frames per second. We adjust the digital playback speed so your family doesn't look like they are in a fast-forwarded silent comedy.

  • Cleaning & Splicing: We perform a manual inspection of every reel, cleaning off dust and repairing old, brittle splices to ensure a smooth transfer.

Why Choose Digital Film?

  1. Stop the Decay: Once film begins to smell like vinegar or turn brittle, it is often too late to save. Digital conversion stops the clock.

  2. HD Quality: Because film is an analog "master," a high-quality scan can often reveal details you never noticed on a blurry old projector screen.

  3. Modern Editing: Once digitized, you can easily add music, titles, or even narration to your family films to create a true documentary of your heritage.

What You Receive

  • High-Definition MP4s: Ready for viewing on laptops, tablets, and 4K televisions.

  • Cloud Access: Private links to download and share your reels with relatives across the country.

  • Your Originals Back: We return your original reels in their boxes, preserved for your archives.

Don't let your family history stay in the dark. Let us help you project those memories into the 21st century.

Our Process: What's next

Here is a clear, step-by-step breakdown of how our process works. We’ve designed this to ensure your media is handled with care and that you stay informed every step of the way.

Phase 1: Ordering & Hand-off

  • Step 1: Check Out Complete your purchase through our online store. This officially starts the process and generates your unique order number.

  • Step 2: Coordination Your order automatically enters our ticketing system. A member of our team will reach out to you shortly to coordinate the safest way to get your media into our hands.

Phase 2: Intake & Documentation

  • Step 3: Inventory & Inspection As soon as your media arrives, we perform a thorough "check-in." We document:

    • Quantity: The exact number of items received.

    • Identification: Specific labels or notes to ensure nothing gets mixed up.

    • Condition: We check for any pre-existing damage to ensure we handle your items correctly.

Phase 3: Processing & Updates

  • Step 4: Active Work Our team begins the technical work on your project.

  • Step 5: Stay in the Loop We update our internal notes throughout the entire process. You will receive progress updates so you always know exactly where your project stands.

Phase 4: Project Completion

  • Step 6: Final Review & Return Once the work is finished, we will contact you to schedule the return of your original media (and your new digital files). At this time, we’ll also wrap up any remaining details or "odds and ends" to make sure you're 100% satisfied.

Note: Our ticketing system acts as a "digital paper trail," ensuring that every note and update is timestamped and attached to your specific order for maximum security.
